Millie's Marinara Sauce

This is my grandmothers recipe, tweaked a bit by my mom of course. It is the most delicious marinara you will ever have! I hope it makes you feel as warm and loved as it does my family.

Ingredients

  • 2 - 28oz. cans crushed tomatoes*

  • 2 - 28oz cans tomato puree*

  • 1 large white onions, chopped small

  • 9 large garlic cloves, finely chopped

  • 1/3 cup fresh basil, chopped

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • Olive oil

  • Salt, to taste

  • Pepper, to taste

Directions

In a large pot, heat a heaping pour of olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook until soft and translucent, about 8 minutes. Add garlic and cook about 2 more minutes.

Add crushed tomatoes and puree, mix well. Add basil and stir to combine. Cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add sugar and season with salt and pepper. Cook uncovered for 1 - 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Serve atop your favorite pasta, topped with grated parmesan and fresh basil. Enjoy!

*For canned tomato sauce, quality matters. We prefer Cento brand, which you can find in your local grocery store.
